The Railway Path runs from Coate Water Country Park in Swindon, south to Marlborough, much of it through the parish of Chiseldon.
It follows mainly the line of the former Midland and South Western Junction Railway. The railway closed in 1967.
The cycle path was created in 1988, since when it has been maintained by Sustrans and is part of the National Cycle Network. The Friends of the Railway Path were formed to help develop and maintain the path, to encourage a wide variety of users and make it an interesting place to visit.
The Friends run workdays throughout the year to help maintain access, and improve habitat. They also run occasional events to investigate the wildlife along the Path. Everyone is welcome to attend.
